Homemade Coconut Flour

Ingredients:

  • 2-4 cups unsweetened dried coconut pulp

When you are going to go gluten-free there may be a few things you'll want to consider: knowing the best ways of making bread with gluten-free flour, discovering gluten-free dessert recipes, finding flour that is gluten-free, and which is the healthiest gluten-free flour there is. There are two flours that come to mind right away, almond flour and coconut flour. These are both perfect for making gluten-free snacks, gluten-free dessert recipes, and so many other gluten-free treats in the kitchen. Coconut flour is one of the healthiest gluten-free flours because of the high levels of healthy fats found in coconuts.

Directions

  1. If you are not sure how to make coconut pulp, please go to the Coconut Milk recipe to make coconut pulp when making a batch of coconut milk. If you do not want the milk you still will need to go through the same process to make the pulp.

  2. Once you have the pulp you will need to completely dry it out by placing it in the oven on the center rack for 4 hours at 170-180°F.

  3. Remove the dried coconut pulp from the oven and allow it to cool. Place the dried pulp in a Vitamix Machine or blender and mix it into a very fine powder.

Coconut flour is not something you would typically just eat on its own; however, it is a great addition to many recipes, especially as a replacement for traditional flour. It has a light hint of coconut taste and a sweetness that can add some amazing flavors to your baked goods, sauces, pastries, and other recipes that call for flour.
